Duties and Responsibilities

Job Description: Marine Educator

Odysseo, the first Oceanarium in the Mascarene region, is currently seeking passionate and dedicated Educators to contribute to the development and delivery of innovative educational programs.

Position Overview:

The Educator will play a pivotal role in designing, delivering, and promoting educational initiatives at the aquarium. This dynamic role includes creating engaging content, fostering relationships with the community, and supporting the organization’s science and conservation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Educational Content and Program Development
  • Develop innovative and engaging educational materials and programs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Prepare detailed plans and reports for educational initiatives.
  1. Program Delivery
  • Facilitate interactive and informative educational programs for various groups, including schools, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Conduct outreach and school visits to broaden the aquarium’s educational impact.
  1. Publicity and Promotion
  • Create and distribute promotional materials to highlight the aquarium’s educational offerings.
  • Represent and promote the aquarium at public events, meetings, and outreach activities.
  1. Community and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain partnerships with schools, businesses, community groups, educational bodies, and other organizations.
  1. Support for Science and Conservation Projects
  • Actively participate in ongoing science and conservation projects, ensuring alignment with the aquarium’s mission and goals.

Profile

 

  • Proven experience in guiding and interacting with small groups.
  • Experience working with children and/or teenagers in an educational or interactive setting.

Education:

  • A university degree in biology, psychology, sociology, sciences, or a related field is preferred.

Skills and Certifications:

  • Strong preference for candidates with prior teaching experience.
  • A diving license is considered an asset.

Additional Preferences:

  • Experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
