Keeping Our River Clean: united to restore life to Rivière Sèche

Oct 06, 2025

Rivière Sèche has regained some of its natural beauty thanks to an inspiring show of commitment. More than 2.8 tonnes of waste were collected during a major clean-up operation led by local producers, supported by the surrounding community - a powerful example of what collaboration between businesses, citizens, and local authorities can achieve.

Behind this initiative were Phoenix Beverages, Avipro, New Maurifoods Ltd, Panagora, and Maurilait. Together, they joined forces with the Vacoas-Phoenix Municipality, Mauri-Facilities Management Co. Ltd, Yes No Solutions, the NGO New Invaders Club, and the Forces Vives de Phoenix.

In a single day, 110 participants rolled up their sleeves to remove plastics, cans, glass, and other waste from the river and its surroundings. Nearly 100 kg of recyclable materials were recovered, while the remaining 2.7 tonnes will be sorted and processed with the support of partner associations.

For Virginie Deschamps, Head of New Maurifoods, the initiative went far beyond a simple clean-up. “This moment helped raise awareness about the importance of preserving biodiversity and reducing plastic pollution. The collected waste will then be sorted and recycled, as much as possible, by our partner associations.”

The effort had a twofold goal: to reduce plastic pollution and to raise environmental awareness. By bringing together companies, residents, and local authorities, this initiative served as a reminder that every action matters - and that protecting our ecosystems often begins right on our doorstep.
