Jean-Paul Hennequin, Manager of Eclosia Solidarité: “Understanding the realities in Mauritius and the contribution each of us can make”

Jul 21, 2026

What was the aim of this second edition of Semaines Terre et Cœur?

We wanted to strengthen connections between colleagues while encouraging them to support charities and environmental causes. Through these activities, we help them discover social and environmental realities and inspire them to take action.

Which activity had a particularly strong impact on participants?

The lunch at Couvent Ste Anne was particularly moving. Our colleagues shared a meal, danced and chatted with elderly residents, some of whom rarely receive visitors. Afterwards, several participants expressed a wish to continue volunteering in a personal capacity. This shows how deeply the encounter touched them.

What did you notice among colleagues as the activities unfolded?

I saw a real shift in perspective. During the visit to Île aux Aigrettes, for example, several participants became more aware of the impact of human activities and pollution on biodiversity. One colleague even told me that the experience had prompted some deep reflection and inspired him to consider working in the environmental sector in the future. These activities make certain realities more tangible and can spark a genuine desire for change.

How did the visit with the children at the Centre d’Éveil de Ste Catherine go?

The children were delighted to meet our colleagues, play with them and share an afternoon snack. For several participants, the visit was also an opportunity to discover the work that charities do with children from vulnerable backgrounds. From an early age, these organisations provide educational support and a nurturing environment that helps children thrive. Discovering this work left a lasting impression on our colleagues.

What would you like participants to take away from this edition?

Mauritius faces many social challenges that sometimes remain out of sight. By meeting the organisations involved, we discover the realities on the ground, the conditions in which they operate and the work they do. Semaines Terre et Cœur should encourage us to ask what contribution each of us can make. We hope that some colleagues will feel inspired to volunteer their own time with these organisations.

How would you like Semaines Terre et Cœur to evolve?

We would like to develop the initiative further by taking feedback into account and ensuring that it aligns with the challenges facing both the country and the Group.
