WeCyclers: recycling in motion

Feb 03, 2026

Officially launched in Rose-Hill in mid-September 2025, the WeCyclers project is now continuing its urban rollout. After this initial pilot phase, the initiative expanded to Vacoas in mid-December 2025, and Quatre-Bornes is expected to join the program by mid-February 2026. A gradual rollout, deliberate and carefully planned. “Little by little, the project is moving forward. To date, we have collected approximately 6.4 tonnes of cardboard in Rose-Hill,” explains Lucile Jackson, Collect Manager at WeCycle.

Created and managed by WeCycle, WeCyclers addresses a very concrete need: making sorting easier in cities, for both shopkeepers and the general public. Born in the field and driven by a committed team, the project is based on a soft and accessible urban collection solution, using cargo bikes that are particularly well suited to city centers.

The initial results are encouraging. In the very first month of launch in Rose-Hill, 2.5 tonnes of cardboard were collected. Participating shopkeepers are playing their part, engagement is growing, and the volumes recovered are increasing week after week.

However, the challenge remains significant. For many shops, it is still easier to leave their cardboard on the sidewalk while waiting for the municipal truck. This is precisely where WeCyclers makes a difference, by offering a practical, regular alternative designed around the realities of urban commerce. Shopkeepers in Rose-Hill are therefore invited to contact WeCycle to join the initiative and actively contribute to this positive momentum.

This mobilization relies on close collaboration between the public and private sectors. Municipalities facilitate the integration of the system into the urban landscape, while WeCycle brings its expertise, organization, and environmental commitment.

With each new deployment, WeCyclers helps to sustainably embed sorting habits, ease congestion in city centers, and reduce the amount of waste sent to Mare Chicose, as the collected cardboard is transported to WeCycle’s processing plant.
